Elevated blood lead concentrations in essential tremor: A case-control study in Mersin, Turkey O Dogu, E Louis, L Tamer, O Unal, A Yilmaz, H Kaleagasi P04.042; A156
Median blood concentration is almost twice as high in ET patients as in controls, according to this study.
Blood lead was measured in 105 ET patients and 105 controls in Mersin, Turkey. The median concentration was 2.7 mcg/dl in ET patients, vs. 1.5 mcg/dl in controls (p<0.001), and mean concentrations were 3.2 vs. 1.6 mcg/dl, respectively.
The authors note these data replicate findings from a New York City study in a different ethnic population (Loius et al., 2003), and highlight the contribution of the environment to risk of ET.
