Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsant medications inhibit neuronal activity and are primarily prescribed for the treatment of disease states that are characterized by abnormally increased CNS activity. Carbamazepine,223-226 gabapentin (Neurontin® from),227-230 lamotrigine (Lamictal®),231 valproate (Depakene® from Abbott Labs),143 levetiracetem (Keppra®) and pregabalin (Lyrica®)232 have been used most in the treatment of RLS, although the studies showing their efficacy included few subjects or were open label.
